RUBBER PRODUCTS
B.I.R.S. Machine & Supply supplier of rubber products including: SBR, Viton®, Black Rubber, Red Rubber, Neoprene, Nitrile, EPDM, Silicone, Butyl and Natural Gum Rubber.
Rubber Products custom shapes including: sheet, rod, profiles, gaskets, molded parts and extrusions.
SBR
Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR) has properties similar to natural rubber, but with greater resistance to abrasion, wear and water. SBR is a non-oil resistant, low cost material that can be used in the production of several rubber products. (SBR) describe families of synthetic rubbers derived from styrene and butadiene (the version developed by Goodyear is called Neolite®).
VITON® GRADES
Viton is a brand of synthetic rubber and fluoro-polymer elastomer commonly used in O-rings, chemical-resistant gloves, spacers, and other molded or extruded products. Viton is a registered trademark of The Chemours Company. Viton® fluoro-elastomers are categorized under the ASTM D1418 and ISO 1629 designation of FKM.
-
Viton® A: Commercial Grade, the most widely used of the
-
Viton® B: used in chemical processing, utilities and power industries.
-
Viton® F: best suited for applications making contact with automotive fuels, aqueous inorganic acids, water and steam.
-
Viton® Extreme : exceptional for extremely harsh chemical enviroements involved aerospace fuels, automotive oil seals and oil field applications.
BLACK RUBBER
General Purpose black rubber sheet material is a general purpose industrial rubber used in any application needing a common elastic rubber material. Used in all kinds of instances from decorative to rubber sheeting flooring runners, industrial buildings, OEM parts, and other agricultural situations. This general purpose rubber sheet can be used almost anywhere an application need average of rubber. Applications for General purpose sheets of black rubber is very well suited for a wide range of applications and noted for its resistance to chlorinated and sea water, most chemicals, great resistance to oil and petroleum, ultra-violet lights, oxidation and its ability to maintain flexibility in cold temperature environments while exhibiting extreme toughness to wear and tear. For Commercial and residential applications, this rubber sheet can be used under shower pans, drainage systems, garage applications, weather stripping, washer and dryer pans and many construction and remodeling uses.
RED RUBBER
SBR Red Rubber sheet is a copolymer of styrene and butadiene with properties very similar to Natural Rubber and can be readily substituted as a low price alternative. It has good physical properties making it an economical gasket material. SBR conforms easily to uneven flange surfaces, has good abrasion resistance, excellent impact strength, very good resilience and a high tensile strength. Red Rubber comes in a smooth plate finish or a textured fabric finish, which will give you a better seal adherence. It can be compounded for use as a skirtboard rubber and is often used as a lining rubber, conveyor belt cover or other extremely demanding applications. Red Rubber (SBR) is a very popular flange gasket material for hot or cold water. Red Rubber is not suited for use with oils, fuels, solvents or hydraulic fluids.
NEOPRENE
Neoprene is an all purpose elastomer and an extremely versatile synthetic rubber used in thousands of applications. Neoprene rubber resists degradation from sun, ozone and weather and performs well in contact with oils and chemicals. Neoprene rubber maintains its strength, flexing, twisting and elongation very well over a wide temperature range while having outstanding physical toughness. Many grades of neoprene are available depending on the application. Cloth inserted neoprene, anti-static ESD neoprene and even FDA approved neoprene is readily available.
NITRILE
Nitrile is a copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile. In addition to its excellent elastomeric properties, it is resistant to oil, caustics, and aliphatic hydrocarbons. Nitrile is not suitable for solvents and chlorinated hydrocarbons. Its maximum temperature limit is 212º F. Nitrile Rubber is also referred to as Buna-N Rubber.
Below is a selection of different types of Nitrile Rubber that we offer. We also have Nitrile Sheets, Nitrile Rolls and Quantity pricing on the items listed. Along with material supply, we also fabricate Nitrile rubber material into gaskets and rubber shapes for industrial and OEM applications.
EPDM
EPDM rubber has excellent resistance to weathering and ozone, good to very good aging resistance and low temperature flexibility, low electrical conductivity and satisfactory resistance to polar chemicals. EPDM rubber us commonly used in the construction and automotive industries.
SILICONE RUBBER
Silicone rubber has is a very versatile material by the mere fact that the temperature range is more extreme than other synthetics rubber. The silicone rubber is inert, very flexible and can be used in medical and FDA environments. In addition to temperature, silicone rubber has superior resistance to water and makes an excellent electrical insulator. Various types of silicone rubber is available such as the transparent / translucent, FDA and cloth inserted silicone materials.
BUTYL
Butyl Rubber made from butyl is actually a blend of polymers mixed with a little bit of isoprene. Butyl Rubber is a very good general purpose rubber for many applications. The chemical resistance of Butyl Rubber is good, the rubber holds up well in most industrial applications. The most unique characteristic of Butyl rubber is that its permeability to air is 70% better than that of most other rubber materials and for this reason the industry uses it for tire tubes and tubeless tire inner liners. Butyl Rubber can be used in so many applications it is hard to list them all. Using Butyl rubber as a substitute for a cheap neoprene is common in marine environments. Butyl Rubber is sometimes called SBR rubber or isoprene rubber.
NATURAL PURE GUM
Natural Pure Gum Rubber has a smooth finish and come in off white or black color. Natural Rubber or Pure Gum Rubber. Full-floating natural rubber for installation requiring high tensile and elongation characteristics along with superior abrasion resistance. Also for applications requiring a soft rubber seal. Conforms to irregular flanges with bolt heads. Resists most organic salts, acids, alkalis, and ammonia. Non-marking gum rubber material has an excellent tear strength and is a resilient type of rubber that doesn't hold memory. Gum rubber also has a self healing ability making it ideal for shooting ranges. Gum Rubber is also abrasion resistant making it a good fit for sand blasting booths.
